When and where was your first regatta?

After 3 years of optimist competition and 1 year without competition, I took part in my first windsurfing competition at the age of 16 in Les Sablettes (83). A league that was the starting point of my competitive windsurfing career!

The tactical move you're most proud of?

I don't have one in particular, but it's always great when I manage to apply the strategy imagined before the start, and it's the winning route...

Your biggest problem?

On the 2004 World Championship, on the penultimate day I made a starboard turn at the windward mark, tearing my sail on the top panel. I didn't have time to repair between races. As a result, I had 2 tough races, even though I was leading the overall standings. I finished 3rd in the championship, which certainly cost me a potential selection for the Athens Olympics...

The race anecdote that always makes you laugh?

On the trade winds trophy, which took place on Pine Island south of Nouméa (New Caledonia).
During a raid, I wanted to take a shortcut through the reef... I took off my daggerboard and went against the wind. Once through, a boat from the organization asked me to turn back as it was forbidden to do so. So I went the other way...with a few centimetres less fin left on the coral, and a lot of lost places!
It was the wrong idea! But I still have great memories of this promotional regatta around this magnificent island, and of the warm welcome from the Caledonians.
